Colorado Sunset

September 8th, 2012

Colorado Sunset

This is a sunset near Pikes Peak outside Colorado Springs, CO. Due to the extreme tonal range from blacks to whites, it was impossible to get this shot in one frame. To get the image shown here, I exposed at five different settings ranging from - 2 EV to + 2 EV. I then processed the files in Photomatix and did the final adjustments in LightRoom 4. This process allows for the presentation of the full range of tones that were in the scene. By the way, the thumbnail here does not show the image at its optimum quality. If you would like to see this scene as I saw it, go to the Landscape Gallery on my website. www.waldropfineartphotography.com

Winter Sunrise

Winter Sunrise

This image was taken near Colorado Springs, CO just after sunrise. The colors here are exactly what I saw as I was rushing to a vantage point to take the photograph. It was around 18 degrees with snow on the ground. This kind of weather is very hard on batteries, so the camera was kept between my coat and my body until I had set up the tripod and was ready to take the picture.
